The TeenWorks Program™
A Year-round Initiative of the United Way of Monroe CountyGENERAL OVERVIEWThe TeenWorks Program™ allocates grants of up to $1000 to teens doing community service projects throughout Monroe County. These projects must be designed, implemented and carried out by teenagers. Through The TeenWorks Program™ teens gain:
- Experience in leadership, board governance, planning, programmatic and fiscal decision making, proposal writing and teamwork
- A sense of connection, accountability and responsibility
- A capacity to care for others
- A sense of pride and confidence in discovering unique talents
- A sense of being needed and valued
- The power to affect personal change and improve the lives of others.
The community also benefits from teens. Through The TeenWorks Program™, communities gain:
- Resources and creativity to solve real problems and provide needed services
- Strong youth/adult partnerships to address community issues
- Mutual understanding and increased trust between youth and adults
- New alliances among local agencies and organizations
- New perspectives in local policy making as youth gain a voice in governing and funding.
The TeenWorks board is comprised of up to thirty-three teens and fifteen adults throughout Monroe County. Together, these board members meet once a month to review applications and hear presentations.
