Youth Allocation Panel
Overview:
An opportunity will be
offered to high school students at all of the public school districts in Monroe
County, as well as the Monroe Career and Technical Institute, Notre Dame High
School, Evergreen Community Charter School, Shawnee Academy/Beacon School, and
the Tobyhanna Christian Academy. At least two students from each school
will be asked to participate on the panel. The students will be in charge
of reviewing and evaluating funding applications pertaining to projects that
benefit the children and youth of Monroe County.
Purpose:
· To alert youth to
the met and unmet needs in the community we serve · To highlight
volunteer opportunities in the community · To develop
knowledge of the community’s human service system · To instill a
sense of community responsibility, citizenship and empowerment · To help youth
understand the United Way and the key role it plays in Monroe County · To provide a
direct opportunity for participation in the United Way decision-making process
Panel Member Job Summary:
As a member of the Youth Allocations panel, the member's objective
is to assist in making funding recommendations for programs submitted by
United
Way agencies. These recommendations should be based on budget and
narrative information provided by the requesting agency, discussion, the
member's
understanding of the community, and the member's own best judgment.
There
is high value in panel member attendance at each of these
meetings, not just to gather information, but to interpret that
information and
contribute feedback and insight. Students must be present at all of the
Youth Allocations meetings in order to participate
Application Process:
The application process will be
open to all admitted United Way agencies. Funds that are allocated in
the
process must be used for projects that involve youth in their
implementation or
are designed to address a specific unmet need in the county pertaining
to
children and youth.
Evaluation Criteria:
· The degree to
which the project would involve, helps, or benefits the youth of Monroe County · Potential for
youth involvement, or the positive outcome on youth recipients · The degree of
duplication with other services currently available · The potential for
a sustainable program with successful outcomes
